Canadian Horse Defence Coalition's Blog

Feb 20, 2013

In response to a nationally televised programme showing horrific conditions for horses whose meat ended up on Swiss dinner plates, several of the country’s supermarkets have pulled most labelled horsemeat products off their shelves.

The episode of the investigative programme “Kassensturz” on Swiss television showed footage of horses being beaten, neglected and transported for hours without food or water before being slaughtered.

Dogpaddling Through Life

Yesterday morning  was long and stressful.

After it was over, this is what we all did.

Jen is going to check out some possible new homes today.

She also bought some Rescue Remedy, because the kitties are showing signs of stress.  How do you usually administer- in the water, in food, or some other way?

Oh, and here’s your daily reminder to vote for Rumpy in the World Spay Day Pet Pageant. To be honest, I’m so far behind, I have no hope of winning. But you need to vote anyway, because the winners are the dogs and cats that are saved a short life of misery because they are unwanted.

Dogpaddling Through Life

We are moving.

Again.

We got another call to show the house, with less than 24 hours notice. Jen asked about breaking the lease and they agreed.

So now we’re looking for another place to live.

Please keep that positive energy flowing this way as we make yet another transition.

The timing of the Universe may be perfect, but moving still stinks!

One thing that is wonderful in our lives right now is the outpouring of support from our friends. Thank you so much to those of you who faithfully vote for me each day. You have no idea how much your kindness means to us, especially now at this time of uncertainty.  We sure do love you!

Oh Dog! I am so excited! My friend and #1 fan Kevin Watanabe wanted to participate in the Animal Welfare Blogger Challenge, but he’s not a blogger. So he has written a guest post I’m sharing for you now. Take it away Kevin!

Hi!  Kevin is here to join your Animal Welfare Challenge through your blog post!

First of all, I’m very sorry that I couldn’t make any post on my blog because I don’t have a blog…but I’d love to join this Animal Welfare Challenge in someway, so I asked Rumpy what I could do.

Have you ever thought of the influence of the sidestream smoke to your pets? Do you know that the sidestream smoke has three times of nicotine of its mainstream smoke?

In our house, nobody smokes, so me and our kitties are okay but some of our friends have their humans who smoke in…

Free Tony The Tiger

BATON ROUGE, La. — This week the State of Louisiana Court of Appeal will hear arguments in the case of the Tiger Truck Stop in Baton Rouge.

Owner Michael Sandlin is fighting to keep a live Bengal tiger named Tony in a cage at the truck stop.

The animal legal defense fund won a ruling against the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for unlawfully issuing Sandlin a permit to keep the tiger.

In 2011, Judge Michael Caldwell ordered wildlife and fisheries to revoke the permit.

The court will take up Sandlin’s appeal on Tuesday.

1. Background

The National Park Service (NPS) has alarmingly decided to massacre deer at Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. The animals will be gunned down, bow-hunted, or cruelly netted and then killed up close with a captive-bolt gun. Hunted animals often do not die outright but disappear only to die slowly from wounds, extreme stress, or injuries sustained during attacks by other animals. Those who are netted are subjected to a terrifying ordeal—they thrash frantically, often harming themselves, and are handled roughly before eventually being killed. The NPS claims that the deer at Rock Creek Park are overpopulated and that killing them will protect plant life—yet the agency’s own data show that deer numbers have gone virtually unchanged in the past 10 years!
