BACKGROUND | SOURCE FOUR PAWS

Cosmetic testing on animals was banned within the EU on 11 March 2009. However, the promised final sales ban must be implemented in 2013 otherwise the 2009 ban will be meaningless as cosmetic companies will simply continue to test their ingredients outside the EU and import them for sale. As the proposed ban forbids the sale of all cosmetic ingredients tested outside the EU, this will also have a positive impact towards ending cosmetic testing on animals worldwide.

A decision will be made very soon on whether the ban will be enforced on time and so swift action is required. A delay will be proposed if it is concluded that alternatives to certain tests have not been developed or validated in time.
